Wednesday, February 28th


  • Notes: I'll introduce Lesson Eight Vocabulary (Your last list!)
  • Then you'll have WORK TIME to continue writing your rough draft, which is due in class on Friday, March 2nd. To be on track, you should have an introduction, and 2-3 body paragraphs done today. 
REMINDER: Today is the last day to submit missing work or corrections for this class.

  • Notes: You'll take notes on the structure and purpose of a conclusion paragraph in a literary analysis essay.
  • Then you'll take the Lesson Seven Vocabulary test. 
  • Finally, you'll have WORK TIME to work on your final essay rough draft. The entire rough draft is due this Friday, 3/2. To be on track, you should have an introduction and one body paragraph completed at the end of class today.

  • Notes: We'll go over Body Paragraph structure and purpose for a literary analysis like the one you're writing about Animal Farm.
  • Then you'll take the Post-Test PSAT Reading exam. Remember that you must complete this test as part of your final exam in this class. Remember also that if you improve your score from your pre-test, you'll get ten extra points.

  • You'll begin by taking the Lesson Six Vocabulary Test. 
  • Then you'll start working on a Vocabulary Review Crossword puzzle, which is due in class tomorrow. As you work, I'll check in with each of you about your grade and any missing assignments you may have.

  • You'll begin by taking the Animal Farm Rdg. Quiz over Ch. 7-8.
  • Then you'll log in to Khan Academy and complete an SAT practice session. Remember to record the name of the session, your score (not energy points!), and a question with answers that you got incorrect -- if you didn't get a perfect score. :) 
  • Finally, you'll have WORK TIME for the following:
    • You'll complete a vocabulary review worksheet to help you start studying for your vocabulary final exam. (Due Today)
    • Then you can work on any missing work or corrections.

  • It's new words Wednesday. You'll take notes over Lesson 6 Vocabulary. 
  • Then you'll have time to finish the text-dependent questions packet that we began in class yesterday. Remember that you need to write one paragraph response to the discussion question of your choice. 
  • I'll distribute graded papers and talk to you individually about necessary corrections.

  • You'll take the Lesson Five Vocabulary Test. 
  • Then you'll log on to Khan Academy and complete an SAT practice set. As always, you must record the name of the practice, your overall score, and an example question with the answers (including the one you chose and the right answer if you chose incorrectly) in your notebook to receive points. 
  • Finally, you'll have WORK TIME for the following:
    • I'll return your annotations of "Stalin: A Brutal Legacy Uncovered." You'll work with a partner to complete the text-dependent questions -- I have prizes for perfect scores. :) 
    • After completing the text-dependent questions, talk through the three discussion questions and choose one for which you'll each write a paragraph response. 
      • Be sure to turn your annotations back in with your text-dependent questions packets. 
    • Missing work and/or corrections as necessary

  • Reading/Annotating: You'll put your annotation notes to work right away, annotating the essay "Stalin: A Brutal Legacy" as we read and discuss together. Depending on time, you may begin working on the assessment that accompanies this text today. 
  • Before you go today, you'll turn in your notebooks for Notebook Check #3. Due Today.

  • You'll begin by taking the Zootopia Viewing Quiz and writing an excellent final draft of the paragraph you began in your notes yesterday. 
  • Then you'll have WORK TIME for the following:
    • Complete a Lesson Five Vocabulary Review (4 English words with sentences and one Greek or Latin root with a visual) -- Due Today
    • Complete an SAT practice set and take the following notes in your notebook:
      • Write the name of the practice set you chose to complete
      • Record one question with all possible answers and the answer you chose
      • Record the overall score you earned on the practice set
    • One-on-one check-ins for missing work, grades, and attendance as necessary

  • We'll continue viewing, discussing, and taking notes on Zootopia. Focus on how the film uses allegory and symbolism to construct a social criticism. You will be taking a quiz on and writing about the film, so be alert!

  • We'll begin with speeches from anyone who was absent yesterday. 
  • Reading and Notes: We'll read and discuss Ch. 7 of Animal Farm.
  • Then you'll take the Lesson Four Vocabulary Test. 
  • Finally, you must log in to Khan Academy and complete a daily SAT practice section, whether in Reading or Writing and Language -- I'll give you extra credit if you do both. You must take notes on the practice section in your notebook to receive credit.

Today is the day! You'll give your speech and take notes on others' speeches. 
  • Then you'll have WORK TIME for the following:
    • Vocabulary Review Exercise: Lesson Four
      • Take four English words from list four and write excellent sentences that use each correctly. 
      • Take one Greek or Latin root from list four and draw a labelled visual of it. 
    • Animal Farm Characters Chart
      • Some of you did not complete this on Friday. It is worth a lot of points and will be essential to writing your final paper. So you can have some more work time to complete it. For every character, you need to make an argument about who or what they represent from the Russian Revolution and you need to include two cited quotes from the text as support.

Since we didn't get to it yesterday, we'll finish viewing Animal Farm  today.  Then you'll have WORK TIME for your final draf...
